Tackling leakage in a world of unequal carbon prices
Study on the reality of the carbon leakage risk in Europe and how to address the few affected sectors
A study that makes clear how claims about carbon leakage in the EU have been seriously exaggerated by industry to avoid meaningful climate change policies. The study, by independent research organisation Climate Strategies, also highlights the flaws with some of the policy measures for addressing leakage.

Why the EU could and should adopt higher emissions reduction targets
Study on why the EU could and should adopt higher greenhouse gas reduction targets
A study by CE Delft, commissioned by the Greens/EFA group, outlines why the EU needs to increase its current 20% emissions reduction target. Failure to do so will not only mean the EU is lagging behind in international climate efforts, it could damage the EU's own climate policies and lead the EU to miss the economic opportunities offered by undertaking ambitious domestic emissions reductions.

Possible future reduction targets for the EU
Study on EU climate policies and pledges and how they measure up
A study by Ecofys, commissioned by the Greens/EFA group, has made it clear that the EU's claim to be the leader in international climate policy does not stand up to analysis.

Beyond the myth
Study uncovers the myths of nuclear power in France
A study, commissioned by the Greens/EFA group, has dispelled some of the myths surrounding the French nuclear industry. Claims about nuclear energy's climate protection and energy independence credentials in particular are exposed as misleading.

The World Nuclear Industry Status Report 2007
New report highlights global nuclear decline
Lack of trained workforce, massive loss of competence, severe manufacturing bottlenecks, lack of confidence of international finance institutions, strong competitors from highly dynamic natural gas and renewable energy systems exacerbate the aging problems of the industry.

Putting the brakes on climate change
Study on car efficiency and CO2 emissions
This study, commissioned by the Greens/EFA group in the EP, looks at the different proposals for EU limits for emissions reductions from cars, assessing the impact of different limits on overall CO2 emissions reductions, and demonstrating how ambitious limit values are possible now.

Putting the brakes on climate change (summary)
This political summary of the study commissioned by the Greens/EFA group on car efficiency outlines the key priorities for the Greens in tackling the CO2 emissions from new passenger cars.

Residual risk
Study on accidents and incidents in nuclear power plants since 1986
This study, commissioned by the Greens/EFA group in the European Parliament, outlines the accidents in nuclear power plants since the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. From minor incidents to major problems, it shows that nuclear power is a very dangerous source of energy.

Food or fuels?
Report highlighting the threat to food security and the environment from a 'plant fuel' expansion
Converting scarce food resources into fuel creates food security problems, while the production of plant fuel is an energy-intensive process that raises environmental concerns. This paper from the Greens outlines some of the damage caused by 'biofuels'.

The Permanent Nth Country Experiment
A study on nuclear weapons proliferation in a rapidly changing world
For many years, nuclear weapons proliferation has remained confined to small expert circles but the risk of proliferation has no gained much greater prominence. This study, commissioned by the Greens/EFA group, attempts to shed light on the subject, correct some of the misconceptions and highlight counter-proliferation approaches.

Nuclear is not a solution for climate change
Paper outlining 40 reasons why nuclear is not a solution to climate change
This paper shows how we will not be able to prevent climate change by expanding nuclear power. This technology simply cannot be developed on the scale that is required and in the limited time that is left to save our climate.

Measures for a climate-friendly transport policy in Europe
Summary of the Greens/EFA soft mobility paper
We outline practical measures in the framework of a strategy to reduce oil consumption and hence to cut transport-induced climatic pollution. The first step consists of traffic reduction; the second is a gradual shift of the energy basis for transport from fossil fuels to renewables. (pdf)
